I am not a 100% sure on how to start this review because my brains have a hard time getting past the drop dead gorgeous piece of man candy on the cover. It’s a struggle, I was very partial to Nathan Weller who embodies Romeo Anderson from The Hashtag Series, but whomever the model is on the Back to Me cover, please feel free to wrap him in a bow and send him my way if ever you are visiting Europe. Before I forget, can we please have a name?!
When I was able to tear myself away from the cover and dive deep into the story, it made me realise a few things. One if I was having a bad week or month, they had it worse; who would have thought but so true. The second idea that crossed my mind is that the hero Billy has it pretty much as bad as Jack Bauer; we all know that dear Jack has had plenty documented bad days. Heather who is Billy’s “angel” and pretty much the love of his life does not have it any easier. We have bad guys, then we have really really bad guys, some old history, shocking revelations and a few twists around to keep us on our toes.
The one thing that really surprised me, and I am not sure if I will be the only one mentioning that is the fact that hunky Billy is actually very emotional. When I mean emotional, I am talking about crying and breaking down. Do not get me wrong, I am not complaining! Like I said, I was surprised because usually the strong male lead is portrayed with a stiff upper lip bearing it all and maintaining composure while boiling on the inside. I am saying that and of course I am thinking of James Bond, trying to recall one of the movies where he broke down and cried; I am thinking the death of Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale and even then I am not so certain (I have to watch it again!!!) . In all of this convoluted thought process of mine, I am hoping that you see where I am coming from; and I was really pleased to see a strong alpha male not being scared of showing true emotion such as worry, anger or fear. What do you guys think?
I really loved it, and I know that in a few week’s time I will likely be reading it again and certainly get my hands on any existing or upcoming books from Kelly. I was really glad that I have had the opportunity to discover a new author and a possible series of books based on the close relationships of the main and secondary characters (Like Luke, Lauren and Blake) in this book.
Funny enough as I was writing the paragraph above, I was thinking that I would have loved to read about Luke and Lauren’s story and went to Goodreads mid-sentence to check it and guess what!?! Luke and Lauren’s story is actually told in Montana Sky. So though there is no official series name, it seems like Back to me is the second book of it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
PS: Can I have a huge poster of the cover? I haven’t had posters since I was 15, but I am reconsidering my stance on them now!
Author Bio:
Kelly Miles is an author, editor and publisher, but her greatest accomplishments are being a wife and mother. She lives in a small town in Tennessee, minutes from her childhood home. The youngest of three siblings, Kelly has always loved reading and writing short stories. To date, she has published two novels, MONTANA SKY and BACK TO ME. Both are available through Amazon.com.
In addition, she is currently working on her third book, BLAKE’S HOPE, set for release in mid-late 2016. All three books are considered a series, but can certainly be read as stand-alone novels as well. TORMENTED is in the works for 2017.
Kelly has two teenage boys who keep her busy. She has been fortunate enough to be a stay-at-home mom, which has afforded her the opportunity to spend more time with her children, and of course, to write. Writing is her passion. Her goal is to spread the love for her characters, her stories, and invite you into another world. Sometimes the writing is difficult, but she enjoys the creativity that it allows. Her hope is to spread the joy, and yes, sometimes torturing world of her craft.
