Slumber (The Slumber Duology #1) by Christy Sloat

It has been quite a while for me dealing or handling fairy tales. The closest I come to that is watching Once Upon a  Time and Grimm on Tv.  So when I saw the opportunity the review Slumber, I was all over this baby.

Let’s be honest, other than me going back to Disneyland a few years ago for a long week end, it’s been a while.  So we can safely say that I am rusty but still… after all I can admit that I sorta kinda watched Disney’s Malefecient when it came on.  Ok! well it was playing in the background as I was working and yes ok I was glancing from time to time. Now you ask me why do I bring this up?

Well dearies, it is because Slumber if I am not mistaken is a very interesting complex amalgamation of the classic Sleeping Beauty crossed with the Maleficent movie with Angelina Jolie.  Well at least this is how I saw it as I was reading it.

This is where I give you more pointed spoilers and share that well, in this story it does not bode well for our Princess.  She doesn’t remember a thing, has been told that she has stabbed her boyfriend and that she is now locked up in an insane asylum.

Told you!

It does not start very well for our girl, but things start looking up as we get to discover a lot more of the back story as well as new characters such as Gray and Sawyer.

The story is really well thought out, there is a good pace to it, it is a very easy entertaining read.  I loved the twists and how Christy adapted the classic story and made it her own in a very smart way.  I was frankly impressed.

From the get go we know it is a duology, so next book should be the conclusion and there is a lot that needs to be resolved, I can tell you pretty much right now that the second part is already on my need to get like yesterday list.

I highly recommend it and I think anyone who loves a good twist on classics or any fairy tale will be quite delighted with Slumber, It is very well written and smart, the characters are nicely developed and easily relatable.  There is a great twist at the end but I am not going to say cause you will have to read it.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

  1. Love this review. Thank you very much for reading Slumber. I don’t know who the lady in the photo is though, she’s really pretty, but not me 🙂

    1. I am so sorry, I guess that is what happens when I create the posts at 2am after a long day of work. It has been now corrected!

I really hope you forgive me, but I wanted to say that Slumber was fantastic! I am really grateful you enjoyed the review, my bad pasting skills aside!

When is the second book coming out?
