Helix
Mary Ting
(International Sensory Assassin Network #2)
Published by: Vesuvian Books
Publication date: September 10th 2019
Genres: Dystopian, Science Fiction, Young Adult
Alliances are forming. The resistance is growing. Everything is about to change.
With her memory still fragmented, Ava returns to the International Sensory Assassin Network (ISAN) to find the twin sister she never knew she had.
But as Ava hunts for information, she finds herself tangled in a web of yet more lies and conspiracy. The Helix serum may not be required to access her superpowers, and the number of male assassins—previously considered too volatile to tolerate Helix—is growing in every territory.
The more Ava uncovers, the more of a threat she becomes to ISAN. Her only salvation may be to join the rebels—if she isn’t killed first.
Review:
It has been ages since I have read anything from Mary and I am so glad to be back into it. I cannot recall for the life of me when the first book ISAN was published, but I did read and review it ages ago.
As this is book 2, I can tell you right now that these are not stand alone and that you need to start with ISAN before digging into Helix.
As I mentioned I read ISAN ages ago and it took me a little bit to situate myself when I started reading Helix, but then by chapter 2 I was into it again. Normally, I would have gone back and re-read ISAN so that my memory is fresh, but honestly I am so swamped these days, that I did not get a chance to. Luckily, I have a good memory, so it was not so bad.
Helix follows the events of ISAN and we get to finally have more back story on Rhett and Ava; not only that but we dig in deeper in the origin of ISAN as well. I know there is a lot more to still uncover and since I do not know how long the series is going to be, I can imagine that the way we are going, it is likely that the next book may not be the last. I am expecting this series to be maybe 4 or 5 books.
I am just speculating here…
But anyways, I am not going to give you more on the story, because you need to read book 1. But I can tell you that it was a great read, you get a bit of everything and I got myself even more emotionally invested in the characters and their future.
I really enjoyed myself and I really hope book 3 is around the corner as I would hate waiting forever for it.
I am going to highly recommend Helix and I do hope you love it as much as I did, but remember start with ISAN first.
