The choice was clear. Wasn’t it…?
Zach and his family made it impossible for Tatum to be his girlfriend. Nigel made it oh-so-easy for Tate to move on. But the shock of seeing Zach again, of finally meeting his mobster family, and even coming face to face with his fiancé, convinced Tatum more than ever that Nigel was the one for her.
Tatum knows Zach still dreams of one day sharing his life with her, but Nigel offers her his life now – no dreaming necessary. And while Zach spends a month entertaining the fiancé that has been forced upon him by his family, why shouldn’t Tatum take her relationship with Nigel to the next level?
When Nigel betrays Tatum her heart is broken. What once was clear becomes dark. She finds herself by Zach’s side yet again, needing him in a way she never imagined.
Zach or Nigel?
The decision isn’t easy because Tatum has learned the hard way—
Choices last a moment. Consequences last a lifetime.
Review:
Here is another book were I got into the story smack dab in the middle of it or should I say in book 3. Before I started reading, I actually went to GoodReads quickly to read the blurbs of the first 2 books. To be honest, I was able to follow the plot and get a rough idea of what went on before very quickly and got reading.
So the story seems to continue on as Tate has a new brit boyfriend Nigel and Zach is trying to get her back and all the drama that creates in her life. Can I say that I didn’t like Nigel too much? He felt clingy and a bit too controlling for my taste. Yuk! Hate guys like that, even in books!!
It is really a quick and easy read in terms of YA serial novels, the characters were really nice overall and I gotta say that I really love Tate’s little sister Toni. Cat, Zach’s mother is also a very good one too, I really liked her quite a lot from the moment I met her in the beginning of the book.
However, in the middle of all of this, I found the behaviour of Tate’s mother very shocking and the fact that she resorts to violence towards her daughter really horrific. I am not sure if she was like that or if she did anything of the kind in the first 2 books, but I have to say that I have found that a really nasty surprise. To put it bluntly, I never saw that coming and I did not like it one bit.
In that way, I found it really very different from the other YA books I have read most recently.
I felt that I would have been more invested in the story, have I read the first 2 books. But that is no one’s fault really and I did not have the time to go buy them and read them. But since I am going to be on vacay next week, it is in my plans to do so.
The book ends on a bit of a super surprise but to be honest, I saw it coming LOL!!
Overall, it was a nice book and I am really curious as to how many books will be part of the series and I need to know how it will end.
As a side note and this is independent from the general review of the book, I think it is time that I address the issue related to the spelling of the word fiancé and/or fiancée. I have been wanting to do that for a while and was even considering doing a post about it but as I was reading the book, I realised it could not wait.
Bearing in mind that I received an ARC and it was possibly not the fully edited version, I write this side note outside of the review of the book. So let me explain, I have been reading all kinds of books for as long as I can remember and in the most recent years, I noticed a pattern where the word “fiancé” is pretty much 90% misspelled. I speak multiple languages and I know spelling is never easy. But the Frenchie that I am cannot take it any longer and it is driving me nuts. Here I said it! I think if I had to read it wrong again I would have had to start screaming.
So dear writers, I love you, I could not write a book and do what you do; so I totally respect the creative process, but for the love of all that is good in the book world, please spell the bloody word properly!!
I am going to make it easy, when you are a guy and you are engaged to a woman, she is then your fiancée (“e” with an accent and a second “e” because you are referring to a woman/girl). So based on that, when you are a woman and are referring to your fiancé the guy (There is no second “e” because well he is male).
See… easy!!
If you have any doubts, I am happy to help, voilà!!
Excerpt:
We got out of the car and walked up to the house. Di was more than a friend to me, she was a sister. She understood me and supported like only a sister could. I loved her very much.
We walked into the front door. The moment the door closed behind Di, my mom yelled, “Tatum, come here. Right now.”
I turned back to Di and whispered, “And so it begins.”
Di stood frozen with bulging eyes. I whipped around and a hand smacked me across the face. I went flying into the coffee table.
“Oh my god, Tate.” Di dropped to the floor behind me.
I took my hand to my forehead and rubbed the dent where my head had collided with the table, then examined my fingertips for blood. They were clear.
“What the hell is this?” my mom yelled.
I turned back to her and she flashed the pee stick. How did she get that? I put that in my nightstand. Ugh, my cheek burned.
“Cindy, what the hell is going on?” Dad came running up from the basement. “What fell?”
Toni stood in the hallway crying. “Daddy, Mommy knocked Tatey down. Hewp her.”
Di grabbed under my armpits and pulled me upright.
My mom became Mr. Hyde. Her pupils were tiny and her eyebrows arched. “I found this pregnancy test in the bathroom trash. You’re pregnant?”
Dad turned the corner into the living room and noticed Di helping me to my feet and ran over to grab me. “What the hell, Cindy. Did you knock her down?”
My mom shoved the pregnancy stick in his face.
He took it. “Tate, is this yours?” He looked at me, his faced drained of blood.
“Dad, please listen. It is—” I sat down on the couch. My head hurt.
Dad shot a dirty look at my mom. “We can be pissed, but don’t you lay a hand on my daughter again.”
Di hid in the front corner by the door, whispering on her mobile. I couldn’t hear who she was talking to.
Poor Toni sat in the doorway crying.
“Tone, come here. I’m okay,” I waved for her to come to me.
She ran and sat next to me. I patted her back. Gizmo barked in the backyard and then ran through the doggie door flap. He joined Toni.
