I always know within the first few pages if a book is going to be an OMG where have you been all my life or something else. It is in fact very rare for me to really dislike books. In fact, if I feel like I am not going to like them I pretty much stop reading after a few chapters. And in the history of forever it only happened once and that was with Lord of the Rings and the the really horrific bad writing. I think I should have read it in french instead of original english.
The point I am trying to make is here is that I knew that The Halfling fell into the “OMG where have you been all my life” the moment I got into page 2. One might say that my assessment is a tad premature, but then to be honest I just know! Here, we are talking about Faeries, werewolves, a Sorceress Queen and some vigilante action.
What’s not to like? or love?
So we have Aria (our heroine) who is half fae, Sam her newly acquired bestie, Matt who is in love with Sam and finally Thomas Reid (yummy yummy next door neighbour)! Oh there is Caleb too, but I am not 100% sure what to think of him yet!
Just in case you did not figure it out, I LOVED IT! Every word and every page, it was funny, sad, full of action some budding romance and high school drama!
I could go on and on and tell you more but then that would be me giving you even more spoilers than I already have and I would hate to ruin it for you guys. One thing I did not mention, actually come to think of it, I do not do it enough but I really really liked the cover too. I think that dark and golden works out really well and helps convey the atmosphere.
We get quite a bit of back history for Aria and Sam which actually makes them the more complete characters in the book. We get some inkling about Thomas but still not enough yet. I am hoping he gets more time in the following book or books because after all he is a vet and his experience could come in handy.
It also makes me wonder if he is going to be a love interest for Aria, or is it meant to be Caleb? Or both? I do not know, but if I have to pick I would def be on Team Thomas! Caleb is nice but considering who his dad is, my judgement remains uncertain.
So as you can see, I am super enthusiastic about this series and it seems that book 2 is just around the corner to be published on the 26th!!!
