When life hands lemons to Beth Beverley, she makes mouthwatering lemon squares. Mostly because they’re coveted by the sexy single dad who owns Belmont’s most popular coffee shop. But that’s where her crush on Griffin has to end. Her sweet treats are selling like crazy cakes in his shop, and she doesn’t mix business with pleasure. Too bad his sinful smile has her flirting with the idea of forever.

Griffin Hall definitely needs to keep his eyes–and his hands–off Beth. Since he’s traded in late-night gigs and partying for bedtime stories with his little girl in his arms, he doesn’t have time for anything else. So why does Beth’s big heart and easy way with his daughter make him finally feel alive again? But there’s a little secret Beth doesn’t know, something he can’t bear to tell her . . .

Review:

I have had the chance of meeting Kelly after publishing the review of The Wedding Date and we started talking about the book in my  little Comments section,  The Wedding Date really resonated with me and it allowed me to fall in love with Kelly’s writing.  So when she asked me if I was happy to review The Family Man, I could not say no as I was deeply touched by the opportunity to do so.

Let me start by saying that though we have the same characters as from The Wedding Date. Beth our main character is after all besties with Kate from The Wedding Date and now she is the one that gets to meet her one.  I should mention his name is Griffin and he has an adorable little girl.  This is where I give you some spoilers, lets just say that Beth is not ready for a relationship though she is super attracted to Griffin and there are some really funny moments in there.

It was really nice to see again Kate and James as their relationship is moving along with Beth and Griffin’s story and to see how those women really love and support each other.  I really loved and appreciated the flow and continuity, though The Family Man stands alone well if you did not read The Wedding Date. So do not let that stop you from plunging in.

I loved the story, again it was simple and direct and both characters had enough drama in their background to make it interesting, I loved Beth from the get go as Kate’s friend and I get to love her more on a different level here as she struggles with her jobs and feelings for Griffin.  Life is not east and we all have our ups and downs and for me this is what makes Beth so real, she is in fact no different in who she is from any of my friends.  This is what makes her real and relatable, she could be any one of us really.

Same applies to Griffin, and with him I decided I might start hanging out at Coffee shops more often in case I get to meet a Griffin too. Ok, I am more of a tea than coffee drinker but at this point, I am not going to nitpick here!!!

After reading The Family Man, I actually sat there thinking about it quite a bit, and I could not wondering what made me like Kelly’s books so much.  As you go through my blog and review, most would notice that I do love my romances but I really love anything with some action, adventure and major ass kickin’…  So yeah, I just sat there thinking with my kindle in my lap and then it dawned on me:

Heart!

The books have heart, a lot of it, all of the characters are human with their great qualities, craziness, insecurities… warts and all and that is just plain wonderful.  These characters are great friends, love each other and well they mess up; but underneath it all they have heart and so does Kelly.

Why?

Because I feel (from having had the chance to talk to her a little) that she puts parts of herself in her books and Beth, Kate and the others would not have heart and be so real if she did not have it herself.

There you have it guys, if you have read The Wedding Date, you will LOVE The Family Man, and if you have not, well I encourage you to rush and get them both and fall in love with Kelly’s writing as much as I have.
