Long ago, the wrath of the three God brothers marked the onset of the Great War. The other Gods watched in horror, until they, too, were forced to take sides. Their beloved Mt Olympus collapsed, ruin was brought to all Divine, and the Age of Darkness gripped the world in its clutches. But a group of Gods was wise, and before their impending deaths, they had crafted a pact, committing to one day rebuilding the Territories – the Heavens, Seas, and the Underworld. It would usher in the world they protected and honored out from its darkness. And from it would rise the new Greats: the Sons of Gods.
Cienzo has always had an affliction for metal and fire; never did he anticipate it would one day translate to wielding dormant powers. It is during a journey to fulfill a promise to his dying sister, that he is plunged into a dark and magical world, and where great responsibility is bestowed upon him.
Is he worthy of assuming the throne of the Territories? Can shattering steel and splitting fire change his mind?
Review:
I finished Sons of Gods yesterday night and even now as I am typing this review, I am not sure how I feel.
I really enjoyed the characters especially Zo and Kayana and the storyline in general, however there is a part of me that felt a bit annoyed with it because it was really really slow paced.
Based on my preferences, for me that was a problem.
It was hugely descriptive and for me this made the progress for the plot well as I said slow. I mean I had to wait until we were nearly halfway (around 40% in) through the book to actually see where the story was going and where I went and told myself, ok we are finally getting somewhere.
Now don’t get me wrong, in between pesky descriptives we have had really interesting fights, and amusing meetings and meeting new lively colorful characters like Zendaya (daughter of Aphrodite and a total badass!!!)
One thing, I really appreciate about Zo is his never-ending love for his ill sister Isla. The quest he goes on as our hero is based on that love and promise he made to her.
That makes him a really good guy in my book!
Now, I thought this was going to be all in one book, but based on how long it took it set up and give us our first true antagonist, I believe there will be more to come and I am expecting this to become a series, since the ending left a lot of things open that still need to be resolved.
I do really love the plot, and the background story put together for the characters and the book(s), I found then really interesting and I could happily live with it. So anyone who like me loves mythology based books, you will likely enjoy Sons of Gods.
However, if you are like me and do not enjoy too much descriptive padding then this will take a bit of the fun away. But I think overall that Arthur did a great job and if we can agree to take it easy on the details then I think it should take these upcoming (hopefully) books to the next level!
