A poisonous secret.
A terrifying curse.
And a client she’d just as soon see dead in a ditch….Summer 1889. Harrison Fearing Pell hoped for adventure when she signed on with the Society for Psychical Research as an occult investigator. Slogging through New York’s sewers in pursuit of a “mud man” wasn’t exactly what she had in mind. But the reeking monster terrorizing the dance halls of the Tenderloin leads her to an even more peculiar mystery — and the last man on earth Harry wishes to become entangled with.
James Moran is a prodigy in music, mathematics . . . and crime. Harry’s older sister, the famed detective Myrtle Fearing Pell, has vowed to put him behind bars. But Harry owes Moran a personal debt, so when he demands her aid she can hardly refuse. It turns out that the brilliant black sheep of New York Society is part of a secret club at Columbia College whose members have started dying in bizarre ways that may not be accidents.
Thus begins one of the strangest cases of Harry’s career, a tale of murder, cold-blooded revenge and fairytale bogeymen to make the Brothers Grimm shudder. As the bodies pile up, each preceded by sightings of the victim’s doppelgänger, Harry and her stalwart friend John Weston must race against time to save a man who arguably deserves his macabre fate.

Review:
Let me just tell you, the ARC got into my mailbox and 3 hours later I was done reading!
This should tell you all…
For those visiting for the first time, I am obsessed with all of Kat’s books, so though I try to be as objective as I can, well.. sometimes it can be hard and here we are.
I am so glad to be back with Harry and John, and heck I am glad I got a little more Myrtle to enjoy, so count me a happy girl!
I am not going to go too much into the plot, but we have James Moran and I did love it so much having him in the forefront as Harry and John’s client per say. Honestly, I loved it, Dead Ringer was up my alley and as usual Kat did not disappoint. Now I want to see these 3 together again!
Can I have that again pretty please?
Talking about more, I would not mind having Myrtle coming back more as well. She is something else and brings an interesting element/influence to the storyline and even to Harry which I really enjoy very much.
So there you go I need more Myrtle and James Moran!
We are here more into a classic-is murder/mystery type and well I had a huge smile on my face from page one!
I am going to make it simple, if you are a fan of Kat’s books then you are going to love Dead Ringer and want more pretty much like me, if this is your first time stumbling onto this page and Kat’s work then you my friend need to start from the beginning and start reading The Daemoniac first and all the following books until you reach this one. This is book 5 so you have 4 to go through first, but you can trust me on this, they are well worth it!
Dear Kat, you have done it again!
You know what I am going to say… when do I get the next one? (Or maybe is there another new series you might be working on?)
as you can imagine, I am going to VERY HIGHLY recommend Dead Ringer! It is just simple awesome and I cannot encourage you to read it and the series enough. You have great characters and fantastic story-telling; need I say more? really?
