Exclusive Excerpt:

I wondered if Tandy Realty had any more information on the property than what Bev knew. She unlocked the front door and walked right in. I tried to prolong the inevitable because I wasn’t ready to see what had become of my home just yet.

I stopped and offered Bev a flower.

“Would you like a daisy?”

“No.” Bev laughed. “That’s quite all right, Mr. Blue.”

Although the outside looked almost the same, the inside was a sight to behold. We stepped into the living room. The wall where I used to shelve rows and rows of books had been replaced by a TeleSkin. We walked in silence through the first floor. The only sound was the clack-clack-clack of her high heels on the hardwood floor. Things had definitely changed. Everything I remembered about my house was either gone or rearranged.

When I closed my eyes, I could hear Susan toddle down the hallway. I could hear Julie calling through the house that supper was ready. I couldn’t stop myself from frowning. That dream was done and gone. Even if I did find a way back, that dream was still just a memory.

Bev and I walked into the kitchen, and I expected to see one similar to that at the town house. However, this kitchen looked like something out of The Jetsons cartoons. I just couldn’t believe the cooking gadgets and mini-TeleSkins everywhere. It didn’t seem possible that this could be the same kitchen where Julie used to make her amazing English muffin pizzas for us.

“Would you like to see the upstairs?” Bev asked.

I wasn’t so sure that I did. Susan’s bedroom was up there. How many families had lived here since I had? How many daughters had grown up here?

Author’s Bio:

Brian Paone was born and raised in the Salem, Massachusetts area. An award winning author, his love of writing began through the medium of short stories at the young age of twelve.

After almost 20 years of consistently writing short stories for only his friends and family to read, Brian’s first full-length novel was published in 2007, and he has published two more since then.

Brian is married to an Officer in the US Navy, and they have 3 children. Brian is a Police Officer for the St. Mary’s GA Police Department and has been working in Law Enforcement since 2002. He is also a self-proclaimed roller coaster junkie, and his favorite color is burnt-orange.
